You say, "our policies should aim to strengthen families, not undermine them. And changing the definition of marriage would undermine the family structure."
All I have to say in response is this:
According to Merriam Webster's, the foremost and most-widely recongized dictionary publishers...
"Main Entry: mar·riage
Pronunciation: 'mer-ij, 'ma-rij
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English mariage, from Anglo-French, from marier to marry
(1) : the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2) : the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage
Please note definition number 2 my dear sir, and realize that amending the constitution would cause the change in the definition of marriage, not the other way around.
Love and cuddles,
Ryan

Nice to see you getting a bit political!
They lost, but imagine all the other things our Senators could have been doing while debating this ridiculous amendment? Ahem. Hello? Health Care? Anyone? Bueller?
