Can I get an "Oops" in here?

Yesterday I received my travel orders for State, which are the documents that authorize me to make plans for moving at government expense (air travel, moving companies, accomodations, etc.).  The documents passed through the hands of at least 3 different State Department officials, but clearly none of them bothered to read them because THEY WERE MY ORDERS FROM ALMOST TEN YEARS AGO.

Yup, that's right.  They had me hired out of Philadelphia, going to training in Dunn Loring, VA, (which is where the Diplomatic Security training facility is located), and ending at New York City (which was my first duty station).  It even had dates from the early 2000s on there.  Seriously?  Does no one read???  Or at least check these things?

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Now, I'm not picking on government employees specifically, as I've worked in every field imaginable (for-profit, nonprofit, and government) and there is a multitude of individuals in any working environment who can't be bothered to read emails, check facts, or research a question before they ask it.  And it is frustrating, no matter where I am.

However, in this case, we are getting down to the wire with move preparations and all.  I leave for DC in a little over 2 weeks, come hell or high water (like that use of a southern saying, Estee?).  So it would be nice if someone, just this once, could do a little due diligence and ensure that they are doing their job correctly.

Oh, how I wish I had a magic wand sometimes...
