Anthony will be so proud

Pabst Blue Ribbon

(33% dark & bitter, 100% working class, 100% genuine)

Oh, Pabst, beer of barbeques, beer of youth, beer of liberty! In my care-free days, Pabst was my drink of choice. I made most of my best friends over cans of this stuff and made many of my first kisses with it on my lips (and breath...uhg). Yeah, Pabst doesn't exactly have the most refined taste going, and my guess is the same can be said for you. I'm not saying you or Pabst is anything short of awesome. Just that you both appreciate a good dirty joke. (Can a beer be said to appreciate a joke? You know what I mean.)

You have an outgoing personality. You like a good time, and you often create one just by being around. But unlike many popular people, there's a lot of substance to you: you scored quite highly on the "genuine" part of the test. Pabst is for real fun, not for company-sponsored, after-work "socials"! See Budweiser Select for that.

Anyhow, nostalgia dictates that I congratulate you on your score on this test. Cheers!

My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

Gettin' me some edumacation

After a lovely weekend in Little Boy Blue, otherwise known as our weekend visit to Anthony's family in Charlotte, I returned home to find an acceptance letter from George Mason University. I have unofficially been accepted into the Masters of Political Science program for the fall ("unofficially" because the official letter hasn't been sent out yet).

Now I just have to wait to hear back from the Masters of Public Administration people so I can make the big decision about which program to suffer through.

I am now one step closer to attaining that ever-elusive graduate degree and a two-year stint with the Peace Corps, otherwise known as the Masters International program. I have many people to thank profusely for their help in getting me here, most recently including Michelle, Eric, Chris (yay for Committee of Seventy!), and David (a shout out to Civic House is in order). If you crazy kids are ever in DC, I owe you a big old hug! (And yes, Eric, that includes you, my increasingly unseen neighbor.)

Silly quizzes and personality tests help me get more out of life

Pookie Monster

Pookie Monster
Originally uploaded by Pookah.

Since I have yet to introduce the titty-tat to the online community, here is Pookie Monster in all his glory for the world to see. Thank god for cat nip.

We have had the pleasure of his presence since mid-February, and have discovered he is twice the cat he was described to be. His foster mommy described him as "cuddly," "laid back," "not a talker..."

We should have known that was, in the foster animal world, the kiss of death. Pookie Monster is anything but cuddly, laid-back, and silent.

When I stick my pinky toe out of the bedsheets at 5:30AM, there he is, meowing his head off. And his meow is more like the sound I imagine sea gulls make when they are slowly, painfully dying. It's a high pitched girly-scream.

So long as we feed him right away, the noise reduces in frequency, if not completely.

He also often bites me when I'm petting him, or scratches the living daylights out of my arm if I pick him up. And don't let his size fool you - he's a strong kitty.

My boss told me that the surefire way to get him to stop any of these annoying behaviors - scratching, clawing, hissing, whining - is to squirt him with some water. But Anthony and I are united on that front - you can't punish the kitty for being vocal. That's like hitting a toddler because it peed in its diaper. Not very nice.

So, truth be told, we love him to bits!

We enjoy watching him play pretend, and randomly run out of the room for no reason at all. Occassionally he graces us with his presence on the couch, and rolls over so we can touch his soft, white tummy.

We're still working on our nail-clippings skills, but eventually we will dominate Mr. Monster and trim the edge off of his razor claws.

That, in a nutshell, is our Pookie Monster. Ah, to be in love...
